OpenClawThird-party harness — wrapper for using Claude externally
Anthropic says Claude subscription limits will no longer apply to third-party harnesses such as OpenClaw. Indie developers can still use them with the same login, but usage will move to separately billed pay-as-you-go, which raises operating cost uncertainty for wrapper-based workflows.
- Policy starts April 4, 12pm PT / 8pm BST for
OpenClaw, with the same rule planned for all third-party harnesses. Claude CodeandClaude Coworkremain covered by the base subscription, but external tools now require extra usage billing.Anthropicoffers a one-time credit equal to the monthly subscription price if redeemed by April 17, plus prepaid usage discounts of up to 30%.- For indie developers, this weakens the cost advantage of building on unofficial or third-party shells and increases dependence on
Anthropic's first-party products.
